Melbourne Photography Experience
Gardens, Wildlife & City Lights
"A full-day workshop across three completely different Melbourne locations, designed to challenge your creativity and grow your skills across multiple styles of photography in a single day."
Sun 12 July or Sat 18 July
One full day, three Melbourne locations
Join me for a full-day photography workshop across three completely different Melbourne locations, designed to challenge your creativity and help you grow your skills across multiple styles of photography in a single day.

From the misty forest paths and waterfalls of Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens, to wildlife photography at Melbourne Zoo, and finishing with Melbourne's skyline and city lights after dark, this workshop is built to help you become more confident shooting in changing environments and lighting conditions throughout an entire day. Whether you're a beginner wanting to better understand your camera or an experienced photographer looking to refine your eye, it's practical, hands-on and inspiring.
Three environments, one big leap forward
Shoot three styles in a day
Landscapes and waterfalls in the morning, wildlife in the afternoon and city lights after dark, all the variety of a photography trip packed into a single day.
Adapt to any light
Soft misty forest light, fast-moving wildlife and low-light cityscapes each demand something different. You will learn to read the light and adjust quickly wherever you are.
Small group, real guidance
Limited numbers mean personal, over-the-shoulder help dialling in every shot, whatever your experience level.
Melbourne, from gardens to city lights
This workshop is designed to help you become a more confident and adaptable photographer by working across three completely different environments in a single day. We begin in the misty forest paths and waterfalls of the Alfred Nicholas Gardens, move to wildlife photography at Melbourne Zoo in the afternoon, and finish photographing Melbourne's skyline and city lights after dark. Across the day you work through changing light and subjects with hands-on guidance the whole way, so you leave with a varied set of images and the skills to recreate them.
Three sessions, three locations
The day is built around three focused sessions, each in a completely different environment. Here is how it runs.
Alfred Nicholas Gardens
Moody winter light, waterfalls and long exposures in the lush Alfred Nicholas Gardens.
Melbourne Zoo
Wildlife photography at Melbourne Zoo: animal behaviour, fast shutters and subject tracking.
Melbourne Cityscapes
Melbourne through blue hour and into night: skylines, laneways, light trails and reflections.

Shooting responsibly
Every workshop runs within the rules of the places we visit. I hold the permits each location needs, we pay landowner and access fees where they apply, and wherever a destination requires a local guide, we travel with one. Local guides know the land, the weather and the people who live there, and they make the trip better for all of us. We stay on marked paths, respect private land and closures, and leave every location as we found it, so it’s still there for the next photographer.

Hey, I'm Josh Beames
As an Australian landscape photographer supported by Nikon, I've had the privilege of capturing breathtaking locations around the world including Europe, North America, Asia, and some of the most dramatic regions across Australia.
I teach photography workshops globally each year and I'm passionate about helping photographers build confidence and skill in the field. This full-day experience is a relaxed, hands-on way to practise across several styles in a single day, close to home.
We'll move from gardens and waterfalls to wildlife and the city after dark, covering everything from foundational settings to long exposures, tracking moving subjects and low-light city composition. My goal is to help you leave with a varied set of images and skills you'll use on every shoot.
Skills that outlast the day
Working across three environments in one day means you leave with a genuinely broad set of skills, not just a memory card of images.
