A photographer's dream landscape
This 3-day Lake Tyrrell photography experience takes you into the heart of Victoria's most surreal pink salt lake, where mirrored water, winter pastels and some of Australia's darkest skies create the perfect environment for sunrise, sunset and astro photography. Across the weekend, you will master low-light shooting, capture the Milky Way reflected in shallow winter water, explore unique foreground textures, and photograph the iconic painted silos under starlight.

Shooting responsibly
Every workshop runs within the rules of the places we visit. I hold the permits each location needs, we pay landowner and access fees where they apply, and wherever a destination requires a local guide, we travel with one. Local guides know the land, the weather and the people who live there, and they make the trip better for all of us. We stay on marked paths, respect private land and closures, and leave every location as we found it, so it’s still there for the next photographer.

Hey, I'm Josh Beames
An Australian landscape photographer proudly supported by Nikon. For more than a decade I've travelled across deserts, salt lakes, Iceland, Norway, the Outback, Canada and the Arctic, chasing bold light and dramatic landscapes.
Shooting the night sky was the first thing that made me fall in love with photography. I spent countless nights learning how to focus in the dark, capture the Milky Way, and make the most of Australia's incredible skies. It's still one of my favourite things to shoot, and Lake Tyrrell is one of the best places in the country to do it.
During this Lake Tyrrell Astro, Sunrise & Sunset Workshop, I'll teach you everything from clean Milky Way captures and perfect reflections to minimalist salt-lake compositions, sunrise pastels, and creative low-light shooting. You'll learn real-world techniques you can apply immediately, with hands-on support at every session. My goal is simple: to help you capture Lake Tyrrell's surreal light, reflections and night sky in their most powerful moments and return home with images you're genuinely proud of.
Skills you'll take home, long after the trip
This isn't just a trip for your hard drive. Every shoot is a hands-on lesson, so you leave with techniques you'll use on every landscape you photograph from here on.

What our customers are saying
Attended an Astrophotography session with Josh. It was absolutely awesome. It's the first time I've done astrophotography and Josh was so helpful in explaining settings and framing. I got a number of shots I love. Highly recommend!
I attended a "Capturing the Night Sky" workshop with Josh. I found the workshop really interesting and presented in a way that made sense. The techniques, images and camera settings were very informative and the overall session was a great experience.
The three day Grampians workshop was more than I expected. The locations Josh has researched and took the group to were perfect for the theme within the landscape and astro we photographed. Josh's knowledge solidified my own and taught me the benefits of selecting your own white balance. I am looking forward to my next workshop with you.
As I reacquaint myself with my long-lost passions for photography and astronomy, I have attended several workshops run by skilled practitioners. Josh takes the cake! Humourous, attentive, immensely talented and treats everyone as though they are the only participant there. Highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions
What experience level is this workshop for?
All levels are welcome. Whether you're shooting in auto or already confident in manual, you'll get personalised guidance pitched to where you are, many past guests made the jump to full manual within a couple of days.
How fit do I need to be?
Moderate fitness is all that's needed. Most locations are close to the vehicle, with a few optional short walks over medium gradients.
How do I secure my place?
Paid in full when you book. Full pricing and dates are shared when you enquire, just reach out and we'll walk you through it.
What's your refund and cancellation policy?
Cancel more than 3 months before the workshop for a full refund. Within 3 months of the start, payments are non-refundable. The one real exception, and it is a genuine one: if somebody else takes your place, you get the whole lot back, however close to the day it happens. I will always try to fill it. If I have to cancel a workshop for any reason, everything you have paid comes back in full. And if I have to postpone one, whether that is weather, a supplier pulling out or illness, your booking moves to the new dates and I set those around what suits the group. If the trip cannot run at all, or the new dates do not work for you, everything you have paid comes back. You are never out of pocket because I moved something.
What's included and what do I need to budget for?
The price covers accommodation, all in-country transport and your full mentoring program. You'll need to budget for flights, meals, mandatory travel insurance and personal expenses.
