Magic of Mungo
Moonrise, desert light and starlit skies
"Shoot the ancient lunette formations of the Walls of China under a rising full moon, then turn your lens to the Milky Way arching over the desert."
A 3-day astro adventure in Mungo National Park
Join us for an extraordinary 3-day photography adventure deep in the heart of Mungo National Park, one of the most remote and otherworldly landscapes in Australia. Timed to the full moon, this small-group workshop is built around the magic of desert light, from glowing moonrise to the brilliance of the Milky Way overhead.

From moonrise over the Walls of China to sunrise across the dunes, every session is timed for the best possible light. With exclusive private access to areas of the park and a group capped at just six, you will have the space, time and one-on-one guidance to come home with images you are genuinely proud of.
More than a trip, a turning point
Dramatic desert light
Shoot moonrise, sunrise and sunset over ancient lunette formations, dunes and dry lake beds.
Exclusive private access
Get into parts of Mungo most visitors never see, with the park to ourselves for the best light.
Astro & advanced craft
Master Milky Way photography, long exposures and blending, with hands-on guidance every step.
Otherworldly desert landscapes
Mungo is a place unlike anywhere else in Australia, where 40,000 years of history meet sculpted clay formations, endless dunes and some of the darkest skies on the continent. Over three days we follow the light, shooting the full moon as it rises over the Walls of China and the Milky Way once night falls.
Your Mungo itinerary
A carefully planned route built around moonrise, sunrise and the best of the desert light.
Arrival & Moonrise
Settle in, then a golden-hour shoot on the lunettes and exclusive private-access sunset and moonrise.
Sunrise, Sunset & Private Access
Sunrise light, wildlife and dunes by day, then 5 hours of private park access into the evening.
Sunrise & Farewell
An in-depth editing session to finish your images before the workshop wraps at 1pm.
You will stay in comfortable, private local accommodation throughout. The specific properties are listed in your workshop handbook.

Shooting responsibly
Every workshop runs within the rules of the places we visit. I hold the permits each location needs, we pay landowner and access fees where they apply, and wherever a destination requires a local guide, we travel with one. Local guides know the land, the weather and the people who live there, and they make the trip better for all of us. We stay on marked paths, respect private land and closures, and leave every location as we found it, so it’s still there for the next photographer.

Hey, I'm Josh Beames
I'm an Australian landscape photographer supported by Nikon, teaching photography workshops across Australia and around the world each year.
Mungo is one of my favourite places to shoot, an ancient, remote landscape that rewards patience and a good plan. With the group kept to just six, I can give you real one-on-one time in the field.
My goal is simple: help you master astro and desert light, and come home with images you're genuinely proud of.

What's included in the price?

What is the refund policy?
Cancel more than 3 months before the workshop for a full refund. Within 3 months of the start, payments are non-refundable. The one real exception, and it is a genuine one: if somebody else takes your place, you get the whole lot back, however close to the day it happens. I will always try to fill it. If I have to cancel a workshop for any reason, everything you have paid comes back in full. And if I have to postpone one, whether that is weather, a supplier pulling out or illness, your booking moves to the new dates and I set those around what suits the group. If the trip cannot run at all, or the new dates do not work for you, everything you have paid comes back. You are never out of pocket because I moved something.
